Bayfield, Colorado - Habitat For Humanities Build

After spending a week in MacKay Idaho exploring the off road trails I headed down to Bayfield Colorado to participate in a 2 week Habitat for Humanities build. I was joined by five other Habitat for Humanities RV Care-A-Vanners and volunteers from various companies in the Bayfield and Durango area.

Habitat for Humanities RV Care-A-Vanners is a volunteer program for anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle, wants to build Habitat houses and have fun doing it.

Our assignment was to frame the outside and inside walls on the 2nd floor of a duplex. After framing, we put sheathing and insulation on the outside walls; the final step was to install the roof trusses. I was fortunate to work with an amazing Project Manager who made the experience extremely positive and rewarding.  I definitely will sign up for another Build.

Down Town Bayfield, Colorado. Only place open for Sunday brunch was the "B Diner"

Bayfield Riverside RV Park, real pleasant and peacefully place to spend  3 weeks.  Only had a 6 mile round trip peddling my bike to the build site. Good thing, this old boy was a little tired after working 8 hours in 90 degree temperature

The Duplex.  Assignment was to frame outside and inside walls, insulate and put on sheathing and roof trusses. We achieved our goal.

MacKay, Idaho -" Rally In-The-Pines," Off-Road event

Mackay has a rich mining and associated logging history as well as farming and ranching. With mining and logging essentially shut down, the main economy now revolves around farming and ranching, and tourism.  Population of Mackay is approximately 517.

Mackay is situated between the White Knob Mountain Range and the Lost River Mountain Range, which are home to the highest mountains in Idaho earning Mackay the nickname "Top of Idaho."

I attended the "Rally-In-The-Pines off road event, spent 7 days exploring the Salmon-Challis and Sawtooth Mountains ranges.  Daily trips ranged from 85 to 145 miles. Traveled through numerous mountain ranges, valleys, river crossings and explored old mines.
