Arrived
Columbus, Montana the 29th of May. The drive on I90 was somewhat challenging with 20 mph head
& side winds for the major part of the day. One gust hit me sideways so hard it flopped my canopy over
the top of the motor home; it was definitely a challenge fighting the wind
while rewinding my canopy. To keep from being blown off the top of the motor
home, I laid on my stomach while re-wrapping the canopy. After 30 minutes of
had work, I was back on the road.

On Tuesday the 30th, Guy and I went off-road riding in the Custer National Forest. The trails were well maintained and the scenery was not disappointing. Once we reached the 9,000-foot level, we hit snow so we had to turn around because the snow was too deep.
Time to load up Guy's Quad
Drive up to the Trail Head

Riding up the Picket Pen Trail in Custer National Forest

Snow started at about the 8,000-foot level

At the 9,000-foot level, snow was too deep, time to turn around. After snacking on Elk Jerky and Elk pepper sticks we headed back down the trail.

Guy installed this bridge for the National Forest Department in 2012. It was transported up the trail in 3 different pieces. Each piece was 6 feet wide by 50 feet long. Turning around the switch backs was definitely a challenge.

Speaking of challenges, I couldn't help myself, I had to challenge Guy to a Quad race. His Cfmoto 800 against my Polaris RZR 800. I am excited to report that I left Guy in my dust. Yep I won.
On
our next excursion, we headed up the Beartooth Scenic Hwy in the Shoshone
National Forest. http://beartoothhighway.com/wild-beartooth/
It goes without saying I was busy taking pictures.

We
had lunch at the Beartooth Café in the town of Cooke City. http://www.cookecitychamber.org/history Went window shopping at a few of the local businesses.
After
lunch we headed towards Chief Joseph Hwy as our return route to Columbus. http://www.travelwyoming.com/listing/yellowstone-national-park/chief-joseph-scenic-byway

Guy and Becky

Thank you Guy and Becky for your hospitality. I had a great visit and enjoyed the off-road riding, tour through Beartooth Hwy, Chief Joseph Hwy and the visit to the local museum. I especially enjoyed sharing stories and laughing until we had tear in our eyes.
Now I'm of to Marysvale, Utah.
Stunning scenery! What a gorgeous place to drive. Lucky you. Fun to visit with Guy and Becky for an extended period. That doesn't happen very often. So glad you made the time for this stop. Now, can you tell me what happened to the sprinkler by the dogwood and the bird's nest fern near the garage? I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be a spurting water fountain! Just kidding. I'll figure it out.
ReplyDeleteThey should both be getting water, they are connected to station #8
