The
30th Annual ATV/UTV National Jamboree in Fillmore, Utah was not a
disappointment. I attended last year, so this year I tried to select guided
rides that I had not been on. I signed up for 3 rides, one was a desert ride,
however on the day I was scheduled to go, Fillmore was forecasted to reach as
high as 101°. Not a place for a Northwest boy to be. I decided to
go on a ride that was in the higher elevations.
My
rides this year were “ Devil’s Armchair” and “Richfield Run”. Didn’t have much opportunity to take
pictures, but I have a few.
The
Jamboree also sponsored 4 events for ATV/UTV riders, the Obstacle Course, Sled
Pull, Drag Races and Tri-Anthelon. The events sounded exciting, so I signed up
for all of them. One the first
night I took 1st place in the obstacle course and 2nd
place in the sled pull.
The next night I made it as far as the 3rd round in the drag races, my little red Polaris RZR 800 can only do so much( aka Mario). I could not keep up with the “big dogs” (1000’s, alternative fuel quads, and hyped up motorcycles), but I hung in there.
I placed last in the tri-anthelon (skeet shooting, golf and horse shoes). I got a prize for last place, so I figured I was still a winner. One person even said, " even when you lose, you still get a prize". When it was all over, most people recognized the little red RZR 800 number 4 and I walked away with a few trophies and lots of participation T-shirts, best part I had a outstanding time. Obstacle Course

Polaris RZR 1000 Turbo

Last Year, This guy didn't make it

People in the stands were taking bets on whether my cooler was going to make or not. The flagman asked me why didn't take it off, I said it held my drinks and lunch. All he could do was laugh.
Sled Pull

Drag Races

Couldn't beat this guy (4 tenths of a second every time), I should of used 4 wheel drive, better traction.

Tri-Athlon

I received 2 trophies, 1st place in the obstacle course and 2nd place in the seld pull.

Won this shirt for having the oldest muscle vehicle, 1948 F1 pickup with a small block 302 V8

In
addition to all of my new T-shirts, I also got a brand new pair of Puma
socks. While staying in Deadwood,
South Dakota, Greg, Etta and I were going to attend the evening dinner at the
RV Park. Upon exiting my motor home, Etta immediately started laughing at me.
She noticed that I was wearing shorts pants with white socks ¾ up to my knees.
She summoned Greg; he joined in her laughing episode. Who knew that my Eddie
Bauer athletic socks were not socially acceptable (at least all pulled up
towards the knee)? Greg saved the day. He gifted me a brand new pair of Puma
socks (thanks again Greg). I will admit it looked better; best part was Etta
quit laughing at me, well not immediately, took her a day or so to get the
vision of my Eddie Bauer socks out of her mind.
Also a pair of socks!
